Bell Traffic Shaping

to compbureau@cb-bc.gc.ca,

To whom it may concern,

Bell Canada has recently taken it upon themselves to unilaterally begin the practice of controlling traffic on the services it wholesales to independent Internet Service Providers.

This practice is akin to forcing their own policies on independent service providers relating to internet usage by limiting the type of traffic and quantity of traffic they allow to reach these internet bandwidth wholesalers.

By imposing their policies and willfully controlling the use of the internet bandwidth they sell to resellers, they are exercising anti-competitive practices and meddling into the management of third party providers; in turn inhibiting the wholesaler's ability to manage based on their own business policy preferences.

Bell Canada has overstepped its authority and is flexing their muscle (infrastructure control) to impose their will on independent competitors.

I am a customer of an independent ISP and have purchased bandwidth directly from them. My provider is at the mercy of this underhanded tactic being employed by Bell Canada.

To obtain an overview of this situation, please review the posts at dslreports.com and specifically at http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Bell-Canada-Throttles-Wholesalers-Doesnt-Bother-To-Tell-Them-92915

I implore you to quell this unfair practice by contacting Bell Canada and instructing them to cease and desist immediately.

Regards,

Ubuntu Propagation Patterns

So Far,

I checked my last post and I announced I was going to do Kernel 2.6.24 , as previously expected the kernel is not yet ready for prime time, looks like I'm waiting for for Hardy Heron after all. I did install it within 7.10 and I was not happy.

Namely Hanging, and bad touchpad control. Seeing as ubuntu is not up to snuff on the whole trackpad thing in the first place, I will wait for the official Hardy Release thank you.

So devellopment 2.6.24 gets a thumbs down for the time being. In the future I will be posting links to the tutorials I have successfully used on my Machines.

Other News:

I have a working full Ubuntu 7.10 on my PS3 in glorious 1080p resolution! It's one sexy beast. Also due to the wonderfull nature of open source it reads accros my network seamlessly.

I will post instructions from home when I get there, should you choose to go forward.

Kernel updates

I've decided I'm going to move my Kernel to 2.6.24, I'm currently at 2.6.22 and it's growing limited in it's treatment of a dual processor machine, I will post my adventures in getting that up shortly.

Wish list for Ubuntu and Voip Telephony update

Voip update:

I've found a softphone that does not conflict with my Sipura ATA, which I can use on OS X and Win Xp.

Trials with Zoiper have been good, so far I realize it is not an open source client but it works very well.

I have tried it on Ubuntu and it works as well as Ekiga minus the cam functionality.

However I do not have my HDA intel card working properly hence I still can't use the ubuntu partition + softphone to make outbound calls, cause although I can hear them they can't hear me.

I don't know if I have to mess around with the card more or update my kernel...

Once I have a working setup, or make some progress from this point I will post specs.
